Faculty:

Amy Willcox

Torrey Pines High School Music Director Amy Marie Willcox began her music career by attending the pre-professional visual and performance arts boarding school, Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, MI. Graduating with an emphasis in saxophone performance Mrs. Willcox then went on to receive her undergraduate degree from the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music where she studied instrumental music education and saxophone performance under the direction of world renowned saxophonist Steven Jordheim. Mrs. Willcox spent the first four years of her teaching career in Napa Valley as the head of the Calistoga Joint Unified School District music department. In 2004 Mrs. Willcox happily joined the TPHS family. A few career highlights include: receiving the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Education teaching award for exceptional student teaching, winning a Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) performance competition, and being listed in the Who’s Who of American Women.


Mrs. Willcox teaches the TPHS Intermediate Orchestra, Advanced Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble & Jazz Band classes.

Artists in Residence

Artists in residence are local professionals who visit our classes regularly to help and teach specialized techniques to our students.

Ryan Bishop

Ryan BIshop received degrees in music performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Music and Yale University. Following his musical training he worked as a professional musician in New York City. Now residing in Cardiff, CA, Ryan is an active performer and educator specializing in Marimba and Drum-Set playing.

Mark Weed

Mark Weed is a trumpeter born and raised in San Diego. He graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Theory/Composition. Mark has been teaching band/brass for 12 years in the San Diego area, as well as performing throughout the county. Jazz Band and Concert Ensemble are his areas of expertise.

Seth Malmstrom

Seth earned his B.S. in Music Education from West Chester University. Before moving to California, Seth was a violinist and Gondolier for Venetian Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, as well as a Magician for Caesar‘s Magical Empire at Caesar‘s Palace. Currently Seth plays with many local string ensembles, and teaches violin and viola to his studio of private students.
