As a native San Diegan I have experienced many changes in our city.  I grew up in Chula Vista and attended Hilltop High School. At that time, East Lake did not exist and there were miles of open land east of interstate 805. After graduating from high school, I furthered my education at San Diego State University earning a bachelor’s and a master’s degree.  I recently completed my doctorate in organizational leadership at the University of La Verne in July, 2006.  Outside of my work, I love to exercise and read.  However, my true passion is spending time with my two children who currently attend San Diego State University and California State University, Fullerton.

I have been an educator for twenty-three years as a classroom teacher, coach, club advisor, department chair, assistant principal and now principal.  My career spans three districts.  I began teaching in the Sweetwater School District in 1979.  I moved to the Grossmont School District in 1983. While teaching in the Grossmont School District, I took five years off to be a full-time mother to my daughter and son.  I returned to teaching when my children entered elementary school.  I came to the San Dieguito Union High School District in 1999 and had the good fortune to be hired as the Assistant Principal at Carmel Valley Middle School.  From there, I went to La Costa Canyon High School for one year and then found my home at San Dieguito High School Academy.

It has been a dream of mine for many years to lead our great school.  As I observed our school transform into the Academy twelve years ago, I realized how compatible my philosophy of educating students is with the guiding principles of SDA.  I believe that if we establish trusting relationship among all members of our school community, good things will happen for our students inside and outside the classroom.  It is the responsibility of staff and parents to maintain high expectations for our students, support their risk taking and model respect, integrity and pride.  Our job at San Dieguito is to continue to train and educate ourselves so that we can provide our students with a dynamic school experience. We know we have done our job when our alumni return and tell us how prepared they are for college and/or their career.
