Contacting Your Counselor
- For any issues related to GRADUATION (such as class schedule, credit or grade inquiries)or APPLYING TO COLLEGE, students and parents need to talk to their alpha-assigned counselor.
- For any SOCIAL OR EMOTIONAL ISSUES, students may talk to whichever counselor they choose.
If a STUDENT wants to meet with a counselor, s/he has several options.
- Walk in to Student Services-Counseling before school, during lunch, or after school (no appointment is necessary). This method is best if a student has a minor concern or question that can be addressed quickly. The counselors are available on a walk-in basis for students before and after school. To maintain counselor availability for students during this time, we ask that parents review the parent section below.
- Fill out a "call slip" (available in Student Services - Counseling at the secretary stations). This method is best for students who have a concern or question that may take more time to address. Your counselor will attempt to call you from the class you requested on the call slip sometime during the period (with teacher permission). It is important to remember that you need to choose the class wisely that you wish to be called from, because YOU will be responsible for whatever instruction or assignments you missed.
- For an urgent matter which requires immediate attention and cannot be addressed through the other methods, a student may come in to Counseling any time. This method is ONLY for students who have a concern that needs immediate attention. A student who needs immediate attention should report to the counseling secretary, who will assess the situation and contact a counselor. If possible, please check in with your teacher first and ask to go to Counseling.
- E-mail using the links at the top of the page or Staff Directory. This method saves you from missing valuable instruction in class and waiting in line.
If you are a PARENT or GUARDIAN, please use the following guidelines:
- If you have a question about your student's current grade or content in a course, contact the teacher directly using the Staff Directory. Remember that you can use Aeries to monitor your student's academic progress and attendance. The counselors do not have any additional information regarding specific classes your student is taking, but the teachers do.
- If you have a general counseling question, many answers can be found using the Counseling website and Alphabetical Counseling Index. If you need further assistance with a general counseling questions, please call (858) 350-0253, ext. 4037 or 4038 to speak with a Counseling secretary.
- If you need further individual assistance, please contact your student's counselor using the links at the top of the page or staff directory. To maintain counselor availability for students during the school day, counselors will check email and voicemail as available. Please keep in mind that, if the issue you wish to discuss is teacher-related, you must first contact the teacher.
