Contacting Your Counselor

  • For any issues PERTAINING TO GRADUATION, such as schedule changes, credit or grade inquiries, and 504s or IEPs, parents       and students need to talk to their alpha-assigned counselor.
  • For any SOCIAL OR EMOTIONAL ISSUES, students may talk to whichever counselor they choose.

If you are a STUDENT, and you want to meet with your counselor, you have several options.

1. Walk in to Student Services before school, during lunch, or after school (no appointment is necessary). This method is best for students who have a minor concern or question that can be addressed quickly.

2. Fill out a "call slip" (available in the Counseling Office at the secretary stations). Write down the classes you are in during the day, the class you would like to be called from, and the nature of your concern. This method is best for students who have a concern or question that may take more time to address. The counselor will attempt to call the student from the class that was requested on the call slip sometime during the period (with teacher permission). It is important to remember that students need to choose the class wisely that they wish to be called from, because they will be responsible for whatever instruction or assignment was missed.

3. Walk in anytime. This method is ONLY for students who have a concern that needs immediate attention. A student who needs immediate attention should report to the secretary, who will assess the situation and contact whichever counselor is available to assist the student.

4. E-mail at the addresses above!

If you are a PARENT or GUARDIAN,

1.  If you have a question about your student's current grade or content in a course, contact the teacher directly via the Teacher page.

2.  If you have a general counseling question or concern, the most effective way to contact your student's counselor is via his or her e-mail address (access above links). You can also contact the counselors via voicemail, but they do not check their voicemail messages until the end of the day (and they will attempt to return your call within 24 hours). Please keep in mind that if the issue you wish to discuss is teacher-related, you must first meet with the teacher.

3.  If you have other counseling questions, please contact Yvonne Fortin or Marlene Hein or call 858-350-0253, ext. 4037 or 4038, to schedule an appointment.
