How do I Make a Four-Year Plan?

Keep in mind that there is not one 4-year plan that fits every student.  Before you can write a 4-year plan, you need to first understand WHAT you are planning!

If you have no idea where to begin, start to develop a more specific plan by doing the following:

  • Create a CHOICES account, and taking a CAREER INVENTORY.
  • After you find several careers of interest, find the colleges or technical schools that offer programs in the major by using the SCHOOL FINDER.
  • When you have found several schools that appeal to you, go to their websites, click on admissions, and find out EXACTLY what they suggest for your high school preparation.
  • Return to the 4-Year Planning Guide.

If you plan to attend two-year college, or a vocational/technical school, at the very least you need to make sure that you will meet our District Graduation Requirements.  Hopefully, you will not only MEET these requirements but also EXCEED them in areas that will allow you to pursue your interests and abilities.

If you plan to attend four-year college, you will want to meet at least the CSU/UC recommended requirements.  Read the 4-Year Planning Guide section and follow the RED items on the 4-year plan.

4-YEAR PLANNING GUIDE   Below you will find a link to an outline where you can enter your planned courses for the four years that you are a student at CCA. On the left side, there are four blocks, each of which represents two terms. On the right side, you will find an overview of CCA graduation requirements and UC/CSU MINIMUM requirements. Please review the following tips BEFORE you click the link at the bottom!

1. The outline is an ADOBE document!  Although you can enter information on the form by simply clicking in a box or typing in a text field, you CANNOT save the entered information on your computer (UNLESS you have Adobe Acrobat...NOT Adobe Reader). You CAN print what you have entered in the same session, but, once you close your browser, you will LOSE the information you added. Either print the blank form, and fill it in manually, or fill it out online and print it immediately.

2. As you review the graduation requirements, keep in mind that the GREY boxes are REQUIRED. You must complete each of them to graduate from CCA. It is also important to note that in the "electives" section, 70 credits are required. Keep in mind that ANY course you take BEYOND the minimum requirements counts as an elective. For example, if you take two years of Spanish (no world language is required to graduate), you will have earned 20 credits of electives already.

Now that you have read EVERYTHING above, click HERE to start using your Four-Year Plan!
