So What Do You Want to Be when You Grow Up???
You may have heard that question by now. Some of you might be sick of hearing it, and others may be excited to even think of it. Either way, the reality is that if you don't start exploring your interests and preparing yourself now, it will be harder to answer the question!
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A CHOICES PORTFOLIO, GO TO www.bridges.com , LOG IN, AND SKIP TO STEP 6.
1. Get an ID number and password for the CHOICES program from your NAVIANCE welcome page . After you get your ID/password, go to step 2.
2. If you do NOT have a portfolio created yet, go to www.bridges.com, click on the "Portfolio Name" tab in the upper right-hand corner, and then click on "Create a New Portfolio" (once you create an account, you can also log on from any computer). If you DO have a portfolio created, as soon as you get to the "Portfolio Name" tab simply type in your ID and password...and skip to step 6.
3. Login using the ID number and password you received.
4. Read the instructions, fill out the spaces, and be sure to use your real name and real Student ID number!
5. When you are finished, click on the "go" button at the bottom of the page.
6. Click the "Choices Planner" icon, and then select "Career Finder" under "Work."
7. On the left side of the page, under "Characteristics," select "Interests." In the upper right-hand corner, select the "Interest Profiler." Click "Start answering questions." Remember, the question is "How would you like to," not "Can you" or "Are you good at..." Answer all of them! When you are finished, select "See Your Matching Careers" at the bottom of the page.
8. On the left side of the page, under "Characteristics," select "Work Values." In the upper-right hand corner, select "Work Values Sorter." Select "Start Ranking your Values," and when you are finished, select "See Your Matching Careers" at the bottom of the page.
9. Your careers have now begun to shrink. If the number is small enough, you can start researching those that sound cool. If the list is way too big, simply select more links on the left and follow the instructions until your careers list is the length you want.
10. When you find an interesting career, click on it and explore! The are specific links on the left, which describe the education you need, the skills you should have, the salary, and a bunch of other cool stuff.
11. Save whatever you want to your portfolio.
