Course Description

The Science Research Seminar program provides students in their sophomore through senior years with the opportunity to meet with and to work with scientists from varied disciplines which will assist them in planning their educational and professional future. Students will have the opportunity to observe and conduct original scientific research. The program is designed to provide students who are motivated by curiosity and are capable of independent learning with an authentic science experience. Students will be engaged in all aspects of scientific research. Students will read scientific journal articles, contact scientists and engage them as mentors, develop hypotheses, collect and analyze data and eventually present their findings.

Instruction is focused on research and practical applications. Students will conduct inquiry-based research projects working with scientists from around the world in both real and virtual labs. Scientists and graduate students serve as co-teachers, presenters, and mentors, working alongside students or connected by Skype and web communication.
