CVMS Traffic News:
Parents: Please be advised that due to complaints from surrounding residents, those who travel Carmel Country Road and SDPD's concerns with violations in the Carmel Country bicycle lane, a heightened ticketing practice has been in force on Carmel Valley Road and Mykonos (this includes the two way traffic area by our driveway). Many of you received fliers in the last few weeks. It has come to my attention that, you are in jeopardy of receiving a ticket, especially during dismissal time. SDPD has informed me that their greatest areas of concern are parents driving on the wrong side of the road near the driveway and the blocked bicycle lane on Carmel Country. CVMS has no way of knowing when the officer will come or where he will be. We will place additional cones out to help remind you of proper entry to school and the direction of each side of the road. We also suggest that you arrive 15 minutes early or late whenever possible, car pool, and/or set up specific alternate drop off points with your child.
Our goal in the CVMS lot is to have parents stop in the red pick-up area, park or keep moving around the circle until your child is ready at the pick up curb. There is only ONE designated pick up area along the front curb. It is CLEARLY marked...do NOT encourage your student to walk across lot to back fence while looking for you as you talk to them on the cell phone. This is dangerous. Do NOT drop off or pick up a student from the middle of the road. They MUST use the cross walk if walking to a car parked in the lot.
Thank you for following the rules of the road. Your patience and understanding is appreciated as we work through the remainder of this school year to keep our students safe...and your driving record clear. We currently have a district traffic engineer working with us to determine if an alternate parking lot/drop off configuration will alleviate the congestion. Additionally, we are exploring staggered start/dismissal times for next year, as well as, the addition of even more buses to our school. Your suggestions to the administration are welcomed and appreciated. Please visit our traffic link on our web site for more information and a map of appropriate practices.
Sincerely,
Laurie B. Francis, Principal
