~PARENT NOTES & ABSENCES~ |
Parents may provide their son/daughter with a written note to excuse them from PE class for up to three consecutive days. This note may be sent with the student, faxed to the EW Administrative Office (fax number: 858-755-0891) or called to the Administration Office, 858-755-1558, either extension 4401 or 4405. Please do not call and leave messages at the Boys’ or Girls’ PE Office as the PE teachers may busy with classes and in the locker room may not get your phone message prior to your student’s class. If faxing or calling, please do so enough in advance so that the Admin Office may contact the PE teacher prior to the start of your child’s PE class period.
Parent notes should clearly indicate the dates the parent is excusing the student any if the student may have some limited participation in the PE class. For example, parents might indicate that their student may not be able to run on a particular day or participate in any activities that require a more strenuous effort, but that the student is still able to dress out and walk the track for some limited form of exercise.
Please remember that parent notes, per district policy, are acceptable for no more than three consecutive days. For an excused PE excuse exceeding three days, a doctor’s note is required.
Students with excused PE absences (from parent/doctor) may be asked to complete a PE written report in the library in order to earn their PE credit for the days excused. As in any Earl Warren class, students with excused absences (illness, injury, medical appointments, family emergencies, etc—all governed by District Board Policy and California State Education Code) are not penalized, but may be required to complete a make up assignment to earn class credit.
Students with unexcused absences (family trips, truancies, suspensions, non-suits, etc) may not be allowed to make up PE credit lost. Any questions as to what, per Board Policy and California Education Code constitutes an excused or unexcused absence, please don’t hesitate to contact the Earl Warren Principal’s Office.
