1.General
Philosophy
The basketball program consists of three levels of play; Freshman, J.V. and Varsity. We wish to develop the feeling of “One Program” as opposed to three independent teams. Each of these teams will have their own personality and style of play, however the basic fundamentals, attitudes, rules and regulations of conduct will be consistent throughout. We wish to develop the feeling of being a part of the entire program among players, coaches and parents. Success at any level is success for all. “The Program” comes first. Players, coaches, parents and administration should be willing to give support to the continued success of the Basketball Program. Our hope is that in giving to the program the individual will receive rewarding experiences and personal growth.
TEAM

ATTITUDE:
The proper attitude is the most important quality the player can possess. Important principles to keep in mind:
APTITUDE:
The willingness and ability to learn. BE COACHABLE.
ABILITY:
The degree of ability one has is largely dependent upon his experience in the game and inborn physical attributes.
G.B.E.D.: Get Better Every Day
This is a simple philosophy that every day when you walk between the lines you give everything you have to make yourself, our team and our program the best it can be. Your sole focus everyday should be on getting better. If you do that image what kind of player you will be and what kind of team we will have by the end of the season. Truly you can receive no higher praise than a coach saying “today we got better.”
2.
PLAYER RULES AND
REGULATIONS:
Player Rules and Regulations: School and C.I.F. rules for players are outlined in the Code of Conduct policy. Each player and parent have received a copy and returned signed forms of receipt. All rules of the Code of Conduct will be enforced by the basketball coach. Some emphasis and specifics to the basketball program follow.
The basic principle which the LCCHS basketball teams will strive to achieve is: “Conduct yourself in such a manner that you bring credit to yourself, your teammates, the team and La Costa Canyon High School. As a member of the basketball program, you should never engage in activities which will bring discredit to the team.”
1. All players are required to participate in all meetings, practices and games unless excused by the coaching staff. Missing practice(s) or games may result in suspension from the next contest or longer. Unexcused absence from practice will automatically result in missing the next contest.
1. Adhere to all LCCHS and C.I.F. rules.
2. You are in school for an education. Keep that first in your thoughts, but place basketball second.
3. Do not cut classes and do be on time.
4. Do not fall behind and do get your work in on time.
5. Have regular study hours and keep them.
6. Do not expect favors. Do your part.
7. Arrange for tutoring at the first sign of trouble.
8. Work for a high-grade point average. Do not be satisfied by merely meeting the eligibility requirements.
3. Coaches Role in the
Program:
Coaches will do their best to adhere to the following principles.
1. Give every player a fair chance and every opportunity he earns.
2. Consider team spirit and moral.
3. Consider the team first, but don’t sacrifice a player just to prove a point.
4. Analyze coaching tactics as well as the player performance, and be governed accordingly.
5. Be a teacher. Follow the laws of learning. Explain, demonstrate, critique and practice until good habits are formed
6. Insist on punctuality and proper dress for practice.
7. Insist on high levels of concentration.
8. Have a definite practice plan and game plan.
9. Encourage team work and unselfishness.
10. Set starting line up and playing time that gives the team the best chance for success.
11. Keep close personal relationships, but keep the players respect. Be interested in players personal problems and easy to approach.
12. Maintain discipline without being dictatorial. Be fair to all. Discipline rule violations.
13. Show patience. Place players in a position for possible success.
14. Maintain a positive demeanor and show respect to all involved with the basketball program.
4. Parents Role in Program:
1. Be a good sport and a great fan.

8. Help you son adhere to all the rules and regulations of the program.
9. Aid in fundraisers, work parties ect. if possible.
