Each infraction of
the rules will result in a warning. An
excess of warnings will result in a student conference, parent contact,
referral, after school detention and/or Saturday school.
Electronic devices will be confiscated (and cell phones answered?!)
if seen or heard in class and returned at the discretion of the teacher. You will receive 6
passes to leave the room for the semester.
Any passes left over at the end of the semester may be redeemed for
extra credit. There will be several
extra credit opportunities throughout the semester.
I encourage you to take advantage of them as they can add up to 2%
to your grade. Here are some
ongoing possibilities:
Grades are calculated
on a total point basis. Your
overall grade will be based on four categories; each one is explained in
detail below.
Tests will usually be given at
the end of each chapter. The
final exam each semester will be counted twice.
If you are absent on a test day, a zero will be entered for your
grade. You have the
opportunity to make up the test only if your absence is excused and
cleared within 48 hours. Makeup
days are once a month at 6 am. If
you absolutely cannot make the scheduled makeup day, you must make
arrangements with me prior to that date.
If something happens the morning of the makeup, notify me
immediately.
Quizzes will be given frequently during the semester.

grade. You have the

You will have at least one
project to complete each semester. Refer
to class handouts and the website for details.
Homework is an essential part
of this class. Each
assignment must be turned in on time for full credit.
(See below for homework grading policy.)
If you are absent, you are responsible for getting missed
assignments on your first day back to class. They are due the following
class. You can also check the website for the assignments you
missed; they are posted daily. When
you turn in a missed assignment, write ABSENT in the upper left hand
corner of your paper. The grade breakdown
is as follows. I will round
up any grade at .5. For
example, if you earn an 89.5, that becomes an A-, a 72.5 becomes a C, and
a 59.5 is passing - barely! A+
100 97
C+ 79 77 A
96 93
C 76 - 73 A
- 92 90
C- 72 - 70 B+
89 87
D+ 69 - 67 B
86 83
D 66 - 63 B
- 82 80
D - 62 60 All absences must be
cleared within 48 hours. Otherwise,
you will be considered truant. Truancies
may not be made up under any circumstances.
If you are truant on a test/quiz day, you will receive a zero. The
consequences for unexcused absences are:
Be in your seat when
the bell rings. Otherwise you
will be considered tardy. The
consequences for unexcused tardies are:
Homework is checked
on a regular basis. You must
ALWAYS show your work and try every problem.
ALWAYS box your final answer when working out a problem. Points will be deducted for the following reasons:
