Here's a Little Bit About Me!

I am in my fifth year of teaching, a profession I came to with great enthusiasm and humility after spending many years as a full-time mother with occasional freelance writing gigs. My goals in working with my students are encouraging healthy skepticism about the conventional wisdom, promoting independent thinking based on reasoned argument, and modeling curiosity, passion, and humanity in all that I do. In the process, I have a wonderful opportunity to share with my students great literature and non-fiction text and to foster a deep satisfaction in writing well.

In addition to teaching, I continue to be a freelance writer and editor. I have two sons, Kellen, 21, and Cameron, 17. Cam is a junior at Torrey Pines.

I'm Currently Reading:

Releasing the Imagination by Maxine Greene
The Dance of the Dissident Daughter  by Sue Monk Kidd
Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling by John Taylor Gatto

I highly recommend them all!
