La Costa Canyon High School—Tardy Policy 2012-2013

As per California Ed. Code 48260:

 

Intervention Level One:  The first level of the intervention sequence begins at the classroom level.

§  Review Tardy Policy Monthly

La Costa Canyon High School has many policies, activities, programs, and events to enhance a student’s educational experience.  However, participation in these events is considered a privilege and is not guaranteed as part of the comprehensive high school program.  Thus, students may have privileges revoked as a consequence for habitual tardiness, which is considered a behavioral infraction. 

Privileges include, but are not limited to:

  • All extra-curricular activities (i.e.: athletics, dramatic performances, club activities, academic competitions)
  • Dances                             
  • ASB events
  • Character awards
  • Parking in student lot
  • Off campus lunch pass

1st Tardy in Classroom

Teacher conference with student; possible class based consequence.

2nd Tardy in Classroom

Teacher conference with student; possible class based consequence.

3rd Tardy in Classroom

Teacher conference with student; possible class based consequence; teacher contact with home.  (Documentation; teacher may send e-mail or notify parent by telephone)

 

Intervention Level Two: At this level, the administration works with the student and their family to remedy the behavioral infractions.

§  Parent Contact (contact may be by mail).

§  First Friday Night School assignment.

 

10th Tardy Overall

 

§  Second Friday Night School assignment.

§  SARB/Attendance Letter #1 mailed home.

 

15th Tardy Overall

 

§  School Attendance Review Team Meeting

o    Students who already have a SART Contract will have a modified SST meeting and be placed on a Behavior Contract.

§  SARB/Attendance Letter #2 hand delivered at SST meeting.

§  Student placed on Loss of Privileges List (LOP).

Students may regain their privileges with verified attendance (five hours required) at after school tutoring in the LCCHS Media Center.

20th Tardy Overall

 

§  Third Friday Night School assignment

§  Student again placed on LOP list.

§  SARB Letter #3 mailed home.

§  Subsequent tardies will result with referral to School Attendance Review Board (SARB).

Students may regain their privileges with verified attendance (five hours required) at after school tutoring in the LCCHS Media Center.
