I am so excited to be working here at CCA! This is the fifth year that I have been teaching in San Diego, and my third here.

My background is a bit 'colorful'! My father was in the Air Force, so I was a military "brat" and moved around a LOT...almost every three years. I can't begin to count the places I have lived - they include New Orleans, Washington DC, Seattle, Texas, Germany, Italy, Minnesota, and here in lovely San Diego. I attended college in SC, at the ORIGINAL USC (the University of South Carolina) and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (drawing concentration). I have also attended art school at Lorenzo de' Medici University in Florence, Italy, where I studied painting restoration, figurative sculpture, and old masters' painting techniques. Fun!

My family, as well as my close friends and boyfriend Peter, are all very important to me....I like to spend as much time with them as possible! Unfortunately, my immediate family is a bit spread out. My parents live near Washington DC, where they both do environmental and safety work. My sister, who recently got married in Napa, lives with her new husband in a cute little town in NJ just outside of NYC (Cranford). She also recently graduated from the French Culinary Institute and has opened her own restaurant (I did the graphics on her website)! I'm so proud of her!!

Lately, I spend my days making sure all of the CCA students have some art in their lives, and spend my free time (hopefully) making my own art, fishing with my wonderful boyfriend, traveling to as many new places as I can, and trying new restaurants. Some of my favorites are Le Papagayo in Leucadia, Indian Princess in San Marcos, and Oggi's Pizza. One of my favorite places to visit is Mexico, and I have driven the Baja peninsula (round trip) four times and counting! My usual stops are just south of Ensenada where my boyfriend and I like to camp on the beach, Loreto (great fishing), and Los Barriles (a super cute, sleepy town) down near Cabo (East Cape). I also have on and off-again worked for a friend where I help make wedding flowers...it's really fun, and I get to be a part of people's happiest day!

As an art teacher, I feel compelled to tell you about the art that compels ME. My favorite artists are first and foremost, Caravaggio, with Frida Kahlo coming in a close second. I also enjoy Modigliani, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Leonardo da Vinci, and some more contemporary artists like Lisa Yuskavage, Jenny Saville, Odd Nerdrum, Kara Walker, Shepard Fairey, Audrey Kawasaki, and John Currin. I have had art shows (of my own work) in South Carolina and here in various places throughout San Diego, such as in North County and Little Italy. My work is also in the permanent collection of Preston College, of USC (SC). My personal art is mostly realistic and figurative, with a creative emphasis on the use of light and achieving a narrative quality!
