Studio Art - 2D Design |
|
|
The
AP Studio Art portfolios are designed for students who are seriously
interested in the experience of art. AP Studio Art is not based on
a written exam; instead, students submit portfolios for evaluation
at the end of the school year. Each portfolio must reflect a student’s
ability to utilize the elements and principles of design, use a variety
of media, and express a sophisticated level of creativity. Students
will independently investigate an area of concentration in their artwork
that will be composed of research, exploration, practice and development
of an idea. Students will not only create the required work, but they
must also strive to make their art as interesting, creative and unique
as possible. Although creative expression and experimentation are
important aspects of what is accomplished in this course, the quality
of each work should be as high as possible. |

Art History is an ART course designed to provide high school students
with the benefits of an introductory college course in art history.
Students will explore the art of Europe (Ancient Greek to Renaissance
to contemporary), Oceania, Africa, Asian, Islamic and America within
a social, historical and cultural context. Students will learn to
identify and analyze architecture, sculpture, painting and the various
themes that develop in art. The goal of the class is not merely
to develop an aesthetic appreciation of art, but to view art in
a broader context within the study of history and the evolution
of human culture. Students taking this course will often elect to
take the AP Art History exam in hopes of earning advanced placement
or credit at many colleges and universities.
