English Learner Program Goals:

  • To teach English learners to read, write, speak and master the English language
  • To provide core classes required for high school graduation as well as college prep courses
  • To foster an appreciation for the United States culture while preserving a unique cultural identity

The English Learner Program offers the following English Language Development courses:

Sheltered courses are also provided through the English Language Learner Program.
Sheltered classes are regular content specific courses offered to English language learners. A "sheltered" content course incorporates second language acquisition instruction, quality teaching and support systems to communicate meaning in the content area. These courses are taught based on student need by teachers certified in those content areas. The courses cover all mandated essential elements with priority placed on modifying the methods and materials for instruction of second language learners.
